Callus and corns
Callus and corns are common conditions on the skin of the foot. They can occur anywhere in the feet but are usually located over bony prominences. Excessive pressure and friction over bony prominences or from footwear causes the outer layer of the skin to thicken forming and callus and corns. Corns are local areas of dense hard skin which are caused by recurrent pressure on the same area of skin. This is often caused due to abnormal biomechanics, foot deformities (such as hammer toes or bunions) or ill-fitting footwear. These conditions can be painful but with conservative care can be managed effectively. Our skilful podiatrists will remove the callus and corns with minimum discomfort bringing instant relief to patients and will help address the abnormal pressure that is causing the corn/callus to develop.
This is a skin infection caused by The Human Papilloma Virus. The virus invades the lower layer of epidermis, in time, visible lesions appear on the skin. In the majority of cases these do not hurt and resolve without the need for treatment. However, in some cases verrucae can cause pain or continue to grow or spread and treatment is often sought. Our podiatrists offer a range of verrucae treatments including caustic agents, cryotherapy (freezing using nitrous oxide) and low level laser.
We can now offer the very latest in technology in the treatment of verrucae - Swift Microwave Technology.
